Challenging Winds and a Race Cut Short - daily report : Task 5, PWC France

  • Aug 31 2024

Yesterday’s task was set at 95 km, with conditions proving to be windy, with gusts around 20 km/h and strong thermals. After the start at 12:45, pilots made rapid progress with the wind at their backs. As predicted, staying high was crucial, as the lower layers became increasingly turbulent in the strong wind.

As the race continued, pilots began facing headwinds, and those descending into the turbulent lower layers started reporting Level 3 turbulence. During this challenging period, an accident occurred, prompting the call for a helicopter, which led to the task being stopped for safety reasons.

Despite the abrupt end to the day, Baptiste remains in the lead and is now well-positioned to secure a spot on the podium.
