It’s paragliding time for the village of Gourdon

We are excited to announce that the village of Gourdon, France, will host the 2024 Paragliding World Cup in August. This large-scale event will bring together the world’s elite paragliding pilots, who will compete over one of the most renowned and challenging flying sites in the world.

Gourdon is not just a beautiful location; it is a world-class paragliding site, home to the test teams of leading brands like Ozone. Located just 20km from the Mediterranean Sea, Gourdon offers consistent thermic conditions, even when the hills behind are snowbound. This makes it an ideal spot for high-level competition and a favorite among professional pilots.

Pilots launching from Gourdon can expect a variety of challenges. The main landing zone is approximately 5km away in the main valley, with closer bomb-out options available. From the launch ridge, pilots can easily transition east towards Courmette and then on to Vence, though landing options become sparse in this direction. With a good climb, pilots can head over the back to Gréolières and the impressive south face of the Cheiron. Often, convergence in the area will assist in returning to the front ridge, making it possible to close impressive triangles.

Top Ozone pilots like Luc Armant, Honorin Hamard, and Baptiste Lambert will be competing on their home turf, adding to the excitement of the event. The competition will also feature other strong contenders, such as Joachim Oberhauser, Ferdinand Vogel, Sebastien Ospina, and a host of other talented French pilots eager to prove their skills. In the women’s ranking, Ellie Egger and Keiko Hiraki are the favorites to reach the podium.

The 2024 Paragliding World Cup in Gourdon is set to be an unforgettable event, offering thrilling competition and breathtaking views.

The event will be extensively covered with daily updates, live tracking, live scoring, and expert commentary available through the official channels.
