Show us your launch skills

Launch conditions were tricky early in the day with an occasional light breeze switching from the north to the south launch and back. The task committee called for the window to open at 11:30 and the race to start at 1 PM to give the pilots time to launch in the difficult conditiions.

The pilots demonstrated their launch skills, using both sides of the hill and a mix of forward and reverse launches. After 70 minutes all the pilots were in the air.

With the potential for overdevelopment and a slight possibility of rain, the task committee decided on a 65k triangle task. The first leg of the course went to the east, the second to the north, and then final leg took the pilots back to the goal just to the north of launch.

This took the pilots over some tricky areas and while lift was plentiful around launch, pilots often found themselves low on the distant parts of the course. This resulted in a challenging day with the winning average speed of just 32 km/h.

71 pilots made goal with an additional two making the end of speed but not finding the altitude needed to continue on to goal.

The overall winner was Fancisco Javier Reina Lagos of Spain.

The female winner was Mathilde Chivet of France, just 3 minutes behind the winner, and the winning team was Niviuk1.

After the 3 tasks less than 10 points separates the top 3 pilots and 32 points separates the top 10 pilots. With the real possibility of having the maximum 7 tasks, the race is still very much up for grabs.
