Fast Day Despite Tricky Winds: Sassudelli Wins Task 6 in Panchgani

Task 6 of the Paragliding World Cup in Panchgani, India, was shaped by a more uncertain wind forecast. Stronger winds had been predicted, making takeoff conditions difficult to assess, as the actual conditions differed from what had been expected.

A 78.8 km task was set, and from the start, the stronger wind created more demanding and rough conditions, particularly in the lower levels after takeoff. Pilots had to manage more turbulence and stay focused during the initial climb-out.

However, conditions improved significantly with altitude. Above roughly 2,500 meters, the air became much more comfortable, and thermals once again allowed climbs above the inversion to over 3,000 meters. With this usable altitude, pilots were able to settle into a faster rhythm on course.

What was initially expected to be a more technical and slower task turned into another fast race. Pilots reached goal well ahead of the estimated times, highlighting the efficiency of the day once established at altitude.

Davide Sassudelli made the decisive move, breaking away from the lead group and arriving at goal around three minutes ahead of the main gaggle to secure the task win.

In the overall standings, Michael Sigel remains in the lead and is now in a strong position for the overall victory.

In the women’s classification, Silvia Buzzi Ferraris also continues to lead and is set to secure the overall win.
