Adapted Takeoff and Fast Racing: Skvortsov Wins Task 4 in Panchgani
- Feb 18 2026
Task 4 of the Paragliding World Cup in Panchgani required some flexibility from both organizers and pilots, as strengthening southerly winds made it necessary to switch to the southern takeoff. The site had recently been burned by local villagers, leaving the launch area covered in ash. In preparation for the task, the takeoff was carefully cleaned with brooms and then covered with tarps, resulting in a well-prepared and usable launch despite the initial conditions.
Wind conditions at takeoff were initially on the stronger side, before easing off slightly as the day progressed. Later on, the wind remained mostly manageable, with stronger gusts at times but overall suitable for launching.
In the air, the day brought lighter thermals compared to the previous tasks, while cloudbase remained high.
A 77 km task was set, and despite the weaker lift, pilots were still able to maintain a good pace, resulting in another relatively fast race.
The task was won by Alexander Skvortsov, who put together a strong performance under the slightly softer conditions. Dominik Breitinger finished well and moved back into the overall lead, continuing the close battle at the top of the rankings.
In the women’s competition, Silvia Vanda Angela Buzzi Ferraris maintains the overall lead with consistent results throughout the event. In the team classification, Niviuk 1 currently holds the top position.
With changing launch conditions and evolving weather, Task 4 once again highlighted the adaptability required in Panchgani, as the competition continues to develop.
