World Cup Aksaray Kicks Off with a Hard-Fought Victory for Sampaio
Aug 18 2025
After strong winds disrupted the training task, the conditions finally calmed down for the first official task of the World Cup in Aksaray. Pilots were greeted with weaker thermals than expected, which made the pace of the race relatively slow. With limited opportunities to push ahead, staying patient and efficient became the key to success.
Sergio Sampaio managed to turn the day around after a difficult start. Despite falling behind early on, he carefully worked his way back into the lead and was the first to cross goal, securing the task win.
In the women’s ranking, Roya Pouralmehtarian is the sole female competitor at this event.
