Smooth Racing in Building Skies

With strong southerly winds in the forecast for Task 3, the day’s route was cleverly designed: a long into-wind leg along the ridge, followed by a zigzag section guiding pilots back toward goal. But the challenge wasn’t just in the wind—overdevelopment was expected, adding a layer of time pressure to the task.

As early as the takeoff phase, clouds started building over the mountains in the back, hinting at the urgency. All pilots were airborne about 30 minutes before the start, getting into position under increasingly active skies.

“The conditions were very smooth compared to the previous days! It was very enjoyable,” Tilen Ceglar told us at goal—and with good reason: he not only made goal but won the task, moving up to 2nd place overall, just behind Honorin Hamard.

Even as the shade from the overdevelopment crept across the course, pilots were still climbing—proof of the day’s strong energy. But the window was closing, and at 13:55, the task was stopped for safety reasons as the overdevelopment intensified. By then, around 45 pilots had already made goal.

A dynamic day with a delicate balance between speed and timing—Task 3 showed once again how well a good plan can play out even under pressure.
