Paragliding World Cup France, Gourdon, 2024 - daily report : Task 1

A Challenging Start to the Competition

The day began with breakfast at the headquarters before the pilots were shuttled to the takeoff. The task committee opted for a 67.5 km optimized route that zigzagged across 11 legs in front of the takeoff. The predicted low ceiling proved accurate, with varying sun and shade conditions making the race highly technical. Pilots often found themselves flying low along the ridges, navigating tricky terrain.

After an intense battle, around five competitors reached goal, followed a few minutes later by Honorin Hamard. Despite taking extra time after tagging the End of Speed Section (ESS) before reaching goal, Honorin Hamard secured this first task win. Overall 24 competitors reached goal.
