Paragliding World Cup Turkey, Cameli, 2024 - daily report : Task 4
Aug 08 2024
A Tight Finish
Today, the forecast surprised us at takeoff as the conditions didn’t match our expectations. The task committee quickly adapted the task to the new conditions, setting a 78.3km optimized route over 7 legs. This task led the competitors north over the mountains, across the valley, and then back south in a small zigzag line to the same goal as the previous days. The start of the race was set for 12:45.
Initially, the conditions seemed weaker, and the race was more challenging due to fewer clouds. The leading gaggle stayed quite close together, resulting in a super tight finish. Kevin Philipp won this task by just 0.1 points ahead of Julien Dusserre, with Martin Jovanoski one point behind. Violeta Jimenez once again secured the women’s win. She shared, “For once, we cut it close coming into goal instead of coming in high. We came in, and my vario went from 400 meters over goal to negative 5 to 10! Yeah, it was another amazing day in Cameli. What an amazing place to race!“
After the race, many pilots used the pool beside the headquarters to cool down, marking a perfect end to another great task.
